Rocky Flintoff hits maiden professional century for Lancashire

Rocky Flintoff, the 18-year-old son of former England cricket star Andrew Flintoff, has scored his maiden senior professional century for Lancashire. During the One-Day Cup match against Somerset at Taunton, he struck 123 from 76 balls, playing a pivotal role in Lancashire reaching 443-6 from their 50 overs. Entering the crease with Lancashire at 138-3, Flintoff dominated the game, sharing a 214-run partnership with Keaton Jennings. He hit 10 fours and seven sixes, reaching his century in just 65 balls. Jennings also contributed 156 from 127 balls. Lancashire’s total is their highest in List A cricket. While the flat Taunton pitch and the absence of several Somerset players competing in The Hundred aided the batters, Flintoff’s aggressive style, including consecutive straight sixes, drew comparisons to his father. Somerset had not yet begun their innings at the time of reporting. In 2024, at 16 years and 113 days old, Flintoff became the youngest player to represent Lancashire in the One-Day Cup. A week prior, he became the youngest England Under-19 player to score a century, doing so against Sri Lanka. In January 2025, he broke his father's record by becoming the youngest player to score a century for the England Lions, against Cricket Australia. Injuries have hampered his progress; he missed last winter's Under-19 World Cup and withdrew from The Hundred 2025 after joining the Northern Superchargers, a team coached at the time by Andrew Flintoff. Following reports of a potential departure, he signed a two-year contract extension with Lancashire in March. Flintoff has made only four first-class appearances for Lancashire, the last in 2024. He began this season with the second XI and England Under-19s, but the One-Day Cup has provided him with consistent opportunities. His previous six innings included scores of 33 not out, 41 not out, 34, and 61 not out, alongside two single-figure dismissals. Somerset’s side featured Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael Vaughan. Andrew Flintoff, a key member of the 2005 Ashes-winning side, played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs, and seven T20Is for England. It was announced last week that he has stepped down as head coach of the England Lions.
