Syeda Khatun, 39, has been handed a 12-month suspended sentence following a racially aggravated assault on children and parents outside a Jewish secondary school in north London. The incident occurred on May 10, when Khatun reportedly verbally abused a mother carrying a baby before turning her aggression toward a group of students returning from a school trip. When a father intervened to protect the children, Khatun struck him in the face and pulled his beard while continuing to shout antisemitic slurs. A court convicted Khatun on July 3, sentencing her to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years. Prosecutors stated that the case was substantiated by eyewitness testimony and security footage, confirming the victims were targeted due to their Jewish identity. Senior prosecutor Raghvesh Singh described the attack as shocking and stated that such violence is abhorrent. Local police condemned the assault and noted that enhanced policing measures remain in place to protect vulnerable areas and reassure the Jewish community.
