Russia and China veto US proposal for UN experts to keep monitoring sanctions on Iran

The UN Security Council reached a stalemate during a vote to extend the mandate of the panel of experts tasked with monitoring the implementation of sanctions related to Iran's nuclear program. Despite receiving 11 votes in favor, the US-proposed resolution was defeated due to vetoes from Russia and China. Two other council members abstained. Although the mandate of the monitoring group has expired, officials emphasized that the sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic remain in effect and their legal status remains unchanged.
