Amnesty International: Iran committed ‘crimes against humanity’ in 2022 protest crackdown

In a new report, Amnesty International has classified the widespread suppression of the 2022 protests in Iran as 'crimes against humanity.' The human rights organization emphasized that the actions taken by Iranian authorities against protesters followed systematic and violent patterns. According to the report, Amnesty International has identified 87 government and security officials allegedly involved in the crackdown. The organization states that evidence indicates the severity of the measures increased compared to previous periods, aimed at instilling public fear. Among the 87 officials named in the report, six have reportedly been killed in military conflicts or other incidents. Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official response to the report, though they have consistently rejected allegations made by international human rights bodies.
