New York Jets cornerback hospitalised after collapsing at practice

New York Jets cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers was transported to hospital by ambulance after collapsing during a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stiggers walked to the sideline following a drill before briefly losing consciousness. The medical staff's immediate response caused practice to be halted for more than 10 minutes. He was conscious and speaking before being stretchered off the field. Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Stiggers had come to the sideline after a play and passed out, adding that it was a positive sign that he was conscious and talking. Saleh praised the medical staff and stated his intention to visit Stiggers at the hospital. Several Jets players knelt near the sideline, while others formed a prayer circle while their teammate received medical attention. Jets running back Breece Hall described the scene as "very scary and emotional," noting that the players were praying for Stiggers' wellbeing. The joint practice reportedly featured several scuffles between players from both teams, including one incident where Stiggers' helmet was knocked off during an altercation with a Buccaneers player. Stiggers, a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has recorded 35 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and three passes defended in 29 games. The Jets are scheduled to host the Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for their first pre-season game on Friday, with kick-off at 00:00 BST on Saturday.
