Ghalibaf warns of Iranian internal divisions over war and diplomacy

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned on Sunday in a speech to parliament about divisions within the country's political establishment over how to handle the war and confrontation with the United States. Mr Ghalibaf stated that in the past seven months, it has been shown that the country is not defenceless against aggression, and the regime's logic in confronting the enemy is intelligent advancement and imposing the will of the Iranian nation. According to the Speaker, two opposing approaches have emerged within political and intellectual circles: first, a view that speaks of war without any horizon or mechanism to bring it to an empowered end, effectively pushing the country toward attrition by rejecting diplomacy; and second, a current that underestimates national power and prescribes surrender to the enemy's unilateral conditions by spreading fear. These remarks come as discussions surrounding the potential resumption of commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the tactical use of economic and military leverage remain contentious among officials of the regime ruling Iran.
