Debbie Wasserman Schultz wins Democratic primary for Florida

According to the Associated Press, U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz has won the Democratic primary for Florida's newly redrawn 20th Congressional District, defeating four opponents. The district, which encompasses significant portions of Broward County, has historically been represented by Black lawmakers for over three decades. Wasserman Schultz entered the race after Republican-led redistricting eliminated her previous district. She defeated former U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, former Broward County Mayor Dale Holness, teacher Elijah Manley, and activist Luther Campbell. In a statement, Wasserman Schultz credited her victory to a coalition of diverse community groups and emphasized her commitment to addressing affordability in housing, healthcare, and daily expenses. She is set to face Republican nominee Brent Andersen and independent candidate Kedner Maxime in the general election on November 3.
