US Jews sour on Iran war: Just one-third now call campaign successful

According to the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) August 2026 index, only one-third of US Jews now view the war with Iran as successful, while 64% label it a failure. The share of those viewing the campaign as successful has steadily declined from 66% in March to 33% in August. The survey highlights a sharp political divide: 80% of strong conservatives view the campaign as a success, whereas 89% of strong liberals view it as a failure. Among 2024 election voters, 73% of Trump voters consider the campaign successful, compared to 84% of Harris voters who view it as a failure. Despite the negative assessment of the outcome, 55% of connected US Jews stated that US military action did not go far enough. Leadership ratings have also suffered; only 26% of US respondents rated President Donald Trump’s leadership on Iran as good, down from 46% in March. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s positive rating fell from 53% to 38% over the same period. The survey, conducted August 15-20, 2026, sampled 804 US respondents, with smaller samples in Canada and the UK showing similar downward trends.
