IDF says it hit meeting of elite Hamas commanders near Gaza port; six reported dead

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday that it struck a meeting of Hamas commanders and elite Nukhba Force operatives near the Gaza port. According to the military, the targets were planning attacks against Israeli troops operating in the Strip. The IDF stated that the strike included a Nukhba company commander, three platoon commanders, and several other operatives, noting that results would be released once verified. Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesperson for the Hamas-run civil defense agency, told AFP that at least six people were killed, including a child, and many were wounded, claiming the strike hit tents of displaced people. Shifa Hospital in Gaza City reported receiving five bodies and 13 injured individuals, one of whom later died. Hamas condemned the strike, describing it as a blatant disregard for ceasefire calls. The IDF maintains that it is engaged in a campaign to target all those who participated in the October 7, 2023, invasion of Israel.
