Rescuers use ziplines to transport trapped citizens after devastating Nepal floods decimate country’s bridges

Rescue workers in Nepal have been forced to deploy ziplines and cable cars to ferry stranded citizens across rivers after deadly floods and mudslides in August destroyed local infrastructure. Footage shows rescue teams operating ropes to transport locals across flooded areas in Nuwakot. As of Wednesday, at least 1,114 deaths have been confirmed in Nepal, with nearly 4,000 people still missing. Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths and at least 541 missing in the Tibet region. Search and rescue operations are ongoing at a hydropower tunnel in the Rasuwa district, where officials from the Nepal Electricity Authority believe 46 people may be trapped in a room-like structure. Regarding foreign nationals, U.S. officials stated that 75 Americans remain unaccounted for, while 16 have reached safety. No American casualties have been reported to date.
