Rising Tensions Between Iran and US: From Larak Island Strike to Trump’s Threat

According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted units preparing to deploy sea-mine-armed rockets against commercial shipping routes, stating the action was necessary to protect civilian mariners and the free flow of global commerce. Following the strike, the IRGC confirmed personnel casualties and announced retaliatory ballistic missile strikes against US bases in Jordan. US officials stated that most of the incoming missiles were intercepted by local air defenses and no significant damage was reported. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump posted a video on social media threatening that Kharg Island would be blown to smithereens. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran does not seek war but warned that it would not remain idle in the face of these attacks. Additionally, the IRGC claimed to have shot down an American drone over the Strait of Hormuz, an incident that has not been confirmed by the United States.
