Education crisis in Blue Nile: 4,000 children out of school

As the new school year begins in Sudan, thousands of displaced children in Blue Nile state are facing a severe education crisis. According to statistics from a camp housing over 20,000 displaced people, approximately 4,000 children are out of school due to a critical shortage of facilities. Some volunteers are attempting to provide basic education under trees, though they lack essential supplies like chalk, boards, and notebooks. The state Ministry of Education acknowledges the challenges and reports efforts to collaborate with international partners, including UNICEF and the Norwegian Refugee Council, to establish temporary classrooms using local materials. The ongoing war in Sudan, which began in April 2023, has deprived millions of children of their right to education and turned many schools into shelters. Meanwhile, the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan has issued a statement from Geneva warning that transnational networks are fueling the conflict by supplying the Rapid Support Forces with personnel and weapons, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation.
