Trial of former Manchester City player Joey Barton delayed

Joey Barton, the former Manchester City player, faces a further delay in his trial at Liverpool Crown Court. According to The Sun, Judge David Potter has adjourned the case, in which Barton is accused of assault near the Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside, until March 8, 2027. This delay could mean the 44-year-old remains in custody for an additional six months before the trial commences, unless he is granted bail. Barton, who appeared in court wearing a blue suit, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm. The case stems from an incident on March 8, during which Kevin Lynch, a former non-league football coach, sustained serious injuries to his face and ribs. Reports indicate that Lynch remains at risk of losing sight in one eye. Barton, whose career included spells at Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Queens Park Rangers, later transitioned into management, leading clubs such as Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers.
