Record number of Haredi recruits join the IDF

A record number of Haredi recruits arrived at the IDF induction center at Tel Hashomer on Sunday, with hundreds enlisting in the military. This wave of enlistment is expected to continue over the next two weeks. Many of the new recruits are slated to serve in combat roles through specialized tracks, including the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, the Hasmonean Brigade, the Hatz Company of the Paratroopers Brigade, and the Negev Unit of the Israel Air Force. The Shomer Yisrael Association, which facilitates the integration of Haredim into the IDF, stated that its pre-military academies and Haredi hesder yeshivas have contributed to this increase. Lt. Col. (res.) Yossi Levy, CEO of Shomer Yisrael, described the event as a significant leap in allowing young men to maintain a Torah-based identity while contributing to Israel's security. Recruits cited a sense of national responsibility and the influence of family members who served in the Gaza war as primary motivations. Parents accompanying their sons expressed support and pride in their decision to enlist.
