US military strikes IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island

A senior US official confirmed on Sunday that the US military struck two rocket launchers belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Larak Island. The official told Reuters that the launchers were preparing to fire missiles carrying naval mines toward the Strait of Hormuz. The official added that US forces have completed clearing mines from international shipping lanes and remain prepared to defend the free flow of commerce through the strait. Iran's Fars news agency reported an explosion near Larak Island, while the Tasnim news agency claimed that two people were killed and two others injured in the attack. The IRGC issued a statement threatening retaliation and characterizing the strike as an act of aggression. Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported that senior US military commanders have warned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that sustained large-scale operations in the Middle East could impair the US military's ability to address threats elsewhere globally. According to the report, some forces deployed to the region are expected to remain until 2027, a decision that has prompted explicit objections from several senior commanders.
