DreamLab Films acquires international rights to Iranian satire ‘Head-to-Head’

DreamLab Films has secured the international sales rights for the Iranian satirical film 'Head-to-Head', ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Directed by Ghasideh Golmakani, the film is a joint production between Iran and Germany. It serves as Golmakani's first feature-length project following a series of internationally screened short films that examined themes of gender, power, and social taboos in Iran. Set in contemporary Iran, the plot follows a prominent female writer and director who makes a radical decision for her latest production: she forces her male actors to wear skirts and headscarves, attire typically mandated for women under the country's strict dress codes. As the heat and restrictions become difficult to endure and the male actors' pride is wounded, tensions on set escalate. Simultaneously, the protagonist Bahar’s hopes for success face mounting resistance. Deadline describes the film as a blend of dark comedy and sharp social observation.
