Judge declares mistrial in Lindsay Clancy murder case after jury deadlocks

Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday after the jury reported for the third time that they remained deadlocked following 36 hours of deliberations. Lindsay Clancy is accused of murdering her three children in their Duxbury home in January 2023. Prosecutors allege the killings were premeditated, while the defense argues she should not be held criminally responsible due to overmedication and postpartum psychosis. Before the formal declaration, Clancy's attorney filed an emergency appeal to the state's highest court, seeking to remove a holdout juror for allegedly failing to follow instructions regarding reasonable doubt; the appeal was rejected. Clancy, who was left paralyzed after the incident, has been returned to Tewksbury State Hospital. Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz stated that no decision has been made yet regarding a potential retrial.
